Beginning as a low, stable three-wheel ride-on, it gives younger children the support they need to practise walking, steering and pushing themselves along. From first trike to balance bike
Stage 1 – Three-wheel mode
The low tricycle configuration is designed for younger riders who are still developing coordination and confidence.
With two rear wheels providing additional stability, children can concentrate on learning how to sit, steer and propel themselves using their feet.
TRYBIKE recommends three-wheel use from approximately 15 months to 2.5 years, depending on the individual child's size and development.
Stage 2 – Two-wheel balance bike
Once a child has developed confidence in three-wheel mode, the long rear axle can be replaced with the shorter axle and single rear wheel.
This changes the TRYBIKE into a low two-wheel balance bike, allowing children to practise the key skill that comes before pedal cycling: balancing while moving.
The balance-bike configuration is designed for approximately 2 to 6 years, with substantial adjustment available as the rider grows.
Ride and handling
TRYBIKE uses large 12-inch spoked wheels with sealed cartridge ball bearings and extra-wide inflatable tyres.
Unlike solid plastic or foam wheels, pneumatic tyres provide natural cushioning over bumps and uneven surfaces while also offering useful grip. This gives the bike a more traditional bicycle feel and makes it suitable for outdoor adventures on suitable paths and surfaces.
The frame has also been designed with a relatively small turning radius. This gives young riders more steering freedom, particularly when navigating smaller spaces and tighter corners.
There is no conventional handbrake. Young children naturally control their speed and stop using their feet, which keeps operation simple while they are learning the fundamentals of balancing and riding.
Adjustable to suit growing riders
One of the standout features of the TRYBIKE Steel is the amount of adjustment built into the frame.
The saddle can be raised as legs grow, while the handlebar height can also be altered to maintain a comfortable riding position.
The rear-wheel control disc provides another level of adjustment by changing the wheel position. This can alter both the effective ride height and wheelbase, allowing the bike to be configured around a child's current size and level of riding experience.
The front wheel also offers two height positions.
