Peter Parker's anthology documents the lives of queer men in London between 1945 and 1959, a period marked by moral panic and debate over the criminalisation of homosexuality. It considers both well-known figures, including E. M. Forster and John Gielgud, and men whose lives were largely unrecorded in public histories.

Letters, diaries, novels, films, police records and other contemporary sources show the range of private lives, meeting places and public attitudes in post-war London.
