When a picture-book maker runs out of stories, his pencil decides it is time to tell her own. Her story begins as a seed and follows her life as a great forest tree, growing alongside the creatures and people that share her world.

Once I Was a Giant is a thoughtful picture book about trees, friendship and the connections that run through the natural world. Zeno Sworder’s detailed illustrations follow the tree through growth, change and renewal, giving young readers plenty to notice while the story explores interdependence and the passing of time.
