Paint Brushes for Frida introduces Frida Kahlo through a story inspired by Self-Portrait with Monkeys. Unable to paint while recovering from painful injuries, Frida imagines colour, plants, birds and butterflies until the mischievous monkey Caimito and his friends help bring her materials within reach.

Key features

  • Story themes include artistic perseverance, physical pain and the natural imagery that appears throughout Kahlo’s work.
  • Élise Mansot’s illustrations echo Kahlo’s bold palette and symbolic use of plants and animals.
