Magritte by Alexander Adams revisits René Magritte's life and career with particular attention to the tension between his deliberately ordinary public persona and the strange, unsettling clarity of his Surrealist paintings. Rather than treating every image as a code to be solved, Adams considers Magritte's work on its own visual terms and places it within a longer Romantic tradition.
